Wording:
The task is to understand how some young people who have a different perception of the world, end up being diagnosed "dys - something" through the traditional schooling system.
Time:
hours
Introduction:

The bell is ringing, telling that it is time to go to class. The teacher tells the students to open their textbook and makes a short introduction to what they are going to learn during this one-hour session. Everybody listens carefully to the teacher’s directives. Everybody, we said? No. One student is missing. A knock at the door is heard. Sighing, the teacher tells to come in. This is the missing student, the same one which is always late for classes. The exception is for physical education and practical work classes, where he excels.
The student goes to his place, the one in the last row, next to the window, hoping that nobody will take further notice of him. As always? Not this time, because the teacher asks him to read. He makes jokes where everybody laughs. Surprisingly, the teacher also laughs. But when she then redirects the student on the task, the young lad gets flirty, complimenting the teacher’s physics. The other boys in the class whistle and laugh. At this moment, many teachers would get pissed and would urge him to read the text and he would react aggressively and get class suspension. This time, the teacher reacts positively to the compliment and asks him to read only the first sentence. Surprised, the boy accepts the request. But when he tries to read the first words, he stammers. As a result, the other students laugh at him. “It is an eighth-grade class, is he not supposed to be able to read?” they think. Feeling humiliated, the boy takes his things and runs out of the classroom.
Unfortunately, this scenery is based on a real story. Many learning disabilities, like dyslexia here, end up being discovered only while at school, long after the affected students developed a lack of confidence because it was not found out early. In this task, you will learn more about them. Enjoy!
