The task is to understand what it means to run the school together, take part in it as a Trio and make a plan to develop your responsibility area.
Time:
hours
Introduction:
Taking part of the different activities and highlights of the school is not the only way to run the school or to make sure that you are bringing life to school. Each DI also has to take responsibilities for some areas of maintenance of the school life and integrity in a practical way.
In DRH Lindersvold, we have created the concept of responsibility areas. Our school is like a big house and we all have to take care of it. In fact, the things we have to take care of are the same as in any household. As we are many living a communal life here, taking responsibility for areas of the school has to be done by everyone, for the well-being of all involved.

How shall we arrange that we have food for every meal, including in the weekend?
How shall we arrange the evening programs and sport events?
How shall we secure that bathrooms and other common areas are always clean?
How shall we secure the good functioning of the heating system and secure hot water in the showers?
What to do - the washing machine has broken down?
How to make sure that we grow our fruits and vegetables?
How shall we secure the best way of transportation to reach the doctor’s or the train station?

In Another Kind of School, we don’t have a janitor to do these things for us. In the society in general, there is a tendency to disrespect humble jobs and manual work, which is in the Western culture growing more and more, and this is encouraged by the functioning of the public school system.
It seems that people having humble jobs are ‘less equal’ than the others.
In our school – Another Kind of School, we have decided to take a stand against that trend.

In this task, you will learn more about the concept of responsibility area and decide in your team about your take in it.

Enjoy!

Directive:

The teacher explains the concept of responsibility areas in general, why it is important and how it is applied at the school. 30 minutes

He/She then writes a list of them for the team to get an overview and each DI chooses which responsibility area to take for the 3-month preparation period. 1 hour

As an inspiration, the DI’s read about their chosen responsibility areas in the DI book of practicality, discuss their understanding and share their impressions with the team. Then, the team brainstorms on possible ways for how to work in their responsibility area and decide how they will improve it. 2 hours

The DI’s write how they want to perform their chosen responsibility areas and which goals they want to achieve. 30 minutes

They send their writing to the teacher for comments.

ON GOOGLE DRIVE: DI book of practicalities from DRH Lindersvold (ask the teacher)
