Introduction:
“Learn to travel, travel to learn” seem like simple words as we use them on a daily basis. The truth is that combining them creates meanings and challenges for all of us.

In this task we’ll firstly look at “learning to travel”. What does this phrase mean? You could even protest that we can all travel. Travelling is not something that must be taught or learned. If you think so, you’re on the wrong lines for Pedagogy at OWU.
You’re going to travel, with your students, with your core group during the training at the school and, of course, during the service period in Africa. During the journey you will be outside the comfort zone of your own house, friends and family, which can increase stress due to the newness of everything, due to physical difficulties en route, due to your senses demanding that you constantly be on alert, requiring you to look here and listen there and smell this and taste that.
Learning to travel involves several unexpected events, enabling you to acquire knowledge from the realities experienced. Therefore, everything must be prepared before travelling.

Secondly, we’ll look at “traveling to learn”. Taking new roads, you will return to base as a different person, through new knowledge gained by meeting people from different regions, chatting, researching, reading and much more. You need to gain real knowledge about the world around us.

Once you will have understood the implications behind these two concepts, it’s going to be the time for you to put it into practice: planning and carry on a real travel together with your core group to acquire information or facts about any subject of interest.
Enjoy it!
Directive:

Read the file (F1. Learn to travel, travel to learn) (30 min).

Discuss in the core group the concept of Learn to Travel and the concept of Travel to Learn. (30 min)

Based on your conclusions from the above, together with your team, organize one-day travel in the local area. You will not have any economical resource and you need to plan what and how you want to investigate (1 hour).

It’s now time to travel! Depending on how you planned it in the core group, start your investigation together with your trio or with the whole team (7 hours).

Make a visual product that represents your understanding and interpretation of these two concepts and how the investigation/the travel/the meeting of people lives up to the concept of Learn to Travel, Travel to Learn.

Exhibit your work in the class (1 hours).

FILE IN HARD COVER
Learn to travel, travel to learn – One World University: Licentiate of Pedagogy, (page 210-222).
