Introduction:

A very good question indeed.

“Aren’t we all for a better world?

Maybe – and maybe not. Therefore, the most important is that “the people”( in the political sense of the broad masses of the people) agree on changing the world. In fact, the people CAN change the world. And when big changes MUST happen, the people are the ONLY force capable of doing so. Thus, we must call upon the slumbering souls of the people to rise up and seize the day. That is what we do when we wish for people to agree.

“A better world” is a tricky term.

What is good? And if we do not agree on this one, then what is “better”? The powers that are in place have their definitions - A better world is a world with parliamentary democracy, (alleged) freedom of speech, and with freedom of ownership of riches, with the freedom to be poor and destitute, and the freedom of the rich to give alms to the poor - so as to alleviate ones nagging bad conscience.

If we do not listen to the media propaganda but ask people in the community, in the factory, or on the street what they believe is a better world, we can assemble a good picture of what that world might look like. It would include: good housing for all, education for all children, health care for all, enough and healthy food, drinking water, freedom from violence and corruption, a world where people share, care for the environment, practice healthy habits, and hold many community events and togetherness.

In this task you will ponder on this question and find what main issues are hindering PEOPLE to simply agree on making a better world.

And what does a better world mean?

4. Watch the video "The Milagro Bean field War" as a humoristic entry in the debate.

5. Write a report about your findings and send to your teacher.
Send your report to the OWU website as entries in a debate about the future.

FILES:

F1.
