Introduction:

UN Agencies have over the past 60 years produced a great many studies and reports on the state the Poor and many other pertinent global issues. The authors have looked for solutions to be implemented by UN agencies, governments and NGOs.

&nbsp;

The US government has regularly refused to pay what it had promissed to UN agencies accusing them of being too leftwing and thus unreliable partners to the USA. UN agency documents are, however, rarely revolutionary and radical in outlook but take a humanistic and humanitarian approach to solving problems.

&nbsp;

Sometimes reports can be accused of believing too much in bureaucratic solutions but this is often not the case, however, when it comes to implementation it is more common to find bureaucratic problems.

&nbsp;

Politically many reports what we could call a moderate social democratic approach. They believe in a state and government intervening and doing good for the many people and have some trust in the actions of people.

&nbsp;

The document of this task has been produced by IFAD &ndash; The International Fund for Agricultural Development which is a UN agencies based in Rome that has been tasked with eradicating rural poverty through agricultural development often in cooperation with local organizations. In Rome, we also find FAO, the World Agricultural Organization, and World Food Program, the agency that provide food aid in emergencies. Thus Rome is the city of the UN agencies dedicated specifically to the issue of food, food production and life in the countryside.

In this task you will study what IFAD believes should be done to fight rural poverty today.

2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Read the article: Africa - Eescaping the slums.

3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Write three main facts about the state of rural poverty mentioned in 
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;the report that you find very important.

4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Summarize the four main issues that IFAD believes require particular 
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;attention. For each of the four issues write what you think it means for 
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;the Group of Poor in the communities where you are working.

5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Consider the importance of rural development in light of the growing 
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;slums of Africa and other poor parts of the world. Write your 
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; observations in a few sentences.

6.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Do you think the IFAD proposals for what to do are realistic? Why &ndash;
