<div>When you speak any language, you speak in sentences.&nbsp;</div>

<div>But you will discover that sentences in one language have a different structure to sentences in another. There are, for example, differences between English and Portuguese sentence structure.&nbsp;</div>

<div>When you speak Portuguese, you may not think of the structure. It comes naturally, and you can hear it clearly when you say a sentence using the wrong structure.</div>

<div>But in English, you are learning a new language and so it can be helpful to know some of the rules about sentence structure.&nbsp;</div>

<div>On this task you are going to form basic sentences about yourself and others.&nbsp;</div>

<div>You will work with the verb &ldquo;to be&rdquo;: is/am/are/was/were:</div>

<div>To make statements and questions.&nbsp;</div>

<div>For example:</div>

<div>Is he Spanish? (present simple tense)</div>

<div>I am learning English. (present continuous tense)</div>

<div>They were not hungry. (past simple tense)</div>

<div>You will work with the verb &ldquo;to do&rdquo; to make:</div>

<div>Simple statements, negative statements, questions, continuous tenses</div>

<div>For example:</div>

<div>She does her homework after school&nbsp;</div>

<div>We don&rsquo;t go to the city very often. (negative statement- present simple tense &ndash; do as auxiliary verb)</div>

<div>I am doing my homework. (present continuous tense)</div>

<div>And you will work with the verb &ldquo;to have&rdquo; and &ldquo;have got&rdquo; (I&rsquo;ve got).</div>

<div>For example:</div>

<div>I have got 3 brothers and 1 sister.&nbsp;</div>

<div>We&rsquo;ve got chickens.&nbsp;</div>
