I am sure that you <u>really</u> enjoy learning English and that you are having a lot of <u>fun</u> on your course.&nbsp;

<div>On this task, you are going to practice using adjectives and adverbs to describe things and actions.</div>

<div>Here are some examples of pairs of adjectives:</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">fun / boring</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">long / short</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">happy / sad</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">easy / difficult</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">beautiful / ugly</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">cheap / expensive</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">old / young</div>

<div>Let&rsquo;s look at some examples of these adjectives in sentences.&nbsp;</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">1. It&rsquo;s really <u>cold</u> today. I am finding it <u>difficult</u> to concentrate.&nbsp;</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">2. Vegetables are so <u>expensive</u> to buy at the supermarket. And it is <u>easy</u> to grow your own.&nbsp;</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">3. I am very <u>happy</u> to be doing this course. It is a lot of <u>fun</u>.&nbsp;</div>

<div>Notice that some of the adjectives in the sentences above are preceded by another word, which adds more information to the adjectives. These words are called adverbs.&nbsp;</div>

<div>It&rsquo;s really cold today.&nbsp;</div>

<div>In this sentence, really is an adverb, which gives more information about the adjective, cold.&nbsp;</div>

<div>Adverbs add information to adjectives, verbs and other kinds of words, including other adverbs! Look at these examples:</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">1. My dog is very old. She walks really slowly.&nbsp;</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;"><br />
2. I need to think about this carefully.&nbsp;</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">3. She sang so beautifully. It was amazing.&nbsp;</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">4. How quickly can you get here?</div>

<div>We usually form an adverb by adding ly to an adjective.</div>

<div>She is a beautiful singer. She sings beautifully.&nbsp;</div>

<div>There are also some common adverbs that are not formed by adding&nbsp;</div>

<div>-LY to the adjective.&nbsp;</div>

<div>Look at the examples:</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">1. This is a fast train. I don&rsquo;t like moving fast!</div>

<div style="margin-left: 40px;">2. Daniel is a good student. He speaks English really well.&nbsp;</div>

<div>Well, now it&rsquo;s time for you to practice using adjectives and adverbs when speaking English. I am sure you will do very well.&nbsp;</div>

	<li>Look at the list of common adjectives in file F1. Mark the words you know with an X. See if you can guess any of the words from their similarity to Portuguese (e.g. interesting / interessante). Then look all the other words up in a dictionary and write down the meaning or translation. &nbsp;</li>
	<li>Complete the exercises in files F2 and F3.&nbsp;</li>
	<li>Complete the exercises in file F4.&nbsp;</li>
	<li>Meet up with another student and check your answers together.&nbsp;</li>
	<li>Show your work to your teacher.&nbsp;</li>
