The task is to investigate local food habits and find out what could be changed in the first round.

Introduction:
The question of food habits matters a lot.<br /> <br /> Eating healthy food gives you energy, builds up your body, and prevents various diseases from encroaching on your body.<br /> <br /> Many people do not eat healthy food for various reasons:<br /> <ul> <li> <p> Poor people have less choices, since they have less funds and often lack knowledge of the few things that they could do to improve their daily intake of nutrients .</p> </li> <li> <p> Many farmers grow one or more staple crops for consumption and are not accustomed to growing and eating vegetables.</p> </li> <li> <p> People have their traditional eating habits which they do not change easily.</p> </li> <li> <p> Traditions of collecting and eating wild leaves, vegetables and roots have disappeared, also because the natural vegetation has disappeared or been degraded.</p> </li> <li> <p> Food companies spend huge amount of money on advertisements, telling that their products are the best, though most of these processed foods are poor in nutrition and high in sugar, salt and fat and chemical compounds in order to be attractrive and last long time on the shop shelves.</p> </li> <li> <p> There is a lack of awareness and knowledge about how to produce /buy /collect /hunt/ catch and cook affordable local food with the right combination of nutrients.</p> </li> </ul> <br /> What are the main obstacles for eating healthily for families where you are?

<ol> <li> <p> Read the introduction and the file.</p> </li> <li> <p> Prepare questions concerning eating habits for families in the area.</p> </li> <li> <p> Visit 3 families. Present yourself and what you are doing. Humbly get the requested information. Get details about each meal, also from where they get the food.</p> </li> <li> <p> Compare the information; can you directly see a tendency? What can you see concerning nutrients, are they sufficient?</p> </li> <li> <p> Present your information to some colleagues. Discuss which problems you see. Discuss possible solutions. What can the families do to improve the nutrition they get by adding some foods and, possibly, cutting down on other foods?</p> </li> <li> <p> Make some concrete advice and suggestions to give to the families. It can be in a number of steps, so the improvement become possible one step at a time. You might advice them to grow some specific herbs, add some vegetable crops in their field or something else that takes time before it is ready for the family to consume. Show your suggestions to some colleagues before visiting the families again. Your advice need to be thought through and simple so the families can benefit, without jeopardizing their economy and food security.</p> </li> <li> <p> Visit each of the families, present, and discuss solutions with them.</p> </li> <li> <p> Write a conclusion on your investigation and the advice you gave and send it to your tutor.</p> </li> </ol>
