The task is to consider what it takes from YOU to learn English.
Time:
hours
Introduction:
The first section of English is first of all for people who learn English as a second language.

When you want to learn a second language, it is important to realize that no-one can actually teach you a language. Teachers, materials, environment etc. can provide the tools for you; but it is YOU who have to do the work to conquer the language.

There are hundreds of teaching materials in languages and many methods of learning a language; some people like to get an overview of the grammar and structure of a language before starting to speak. Others like to use the environment and “learning by doing”. Others again prefer a mix.
However, when we learn to speak as children, we pick up the language from our environment – the natural way, you could say. And later, at school, we get the structure and grammar. Think about it!

Which ever way you prefer to learn English, it is essential that you throw yourself into the learning – being active – asking questions – practicing speaking, reading and writing - not waiting to be perfect.
Use any opportunity in the daily life at the school to communicate in English – for example team up with an English speaker when cooking or during a building weekend and sit at the dinner table with English speakers.
When you attend a course and don’t understand all the words, try to get the main message and take notes.
When you read texts for your studies, try to get the main message. Write down vocabulary you don’t understand and look them up.
When making presentations for your team or the school, put an effort into having a correct language.
Have a small note book and learn 20 new words every day – write them in your note book.
Watch good movies or read interesting books to get used to the English language.

This task is for you to take charge of your language training.
