Introduction:
What today is called Iraq was once home the earliest agricultural communities in the world and the earliest literate societies. For millennia it was a cornerstone in European and Asian civilizations. Many ancient cultural treasures were guarded in this area. Under Arab rulers, the House of Wisdom was one of the most important universities of the Middle Ages. Scribes here preserved ancient Greek science texts that had been lost in all of Europe.

Before the wars with USA started, Iraq was a country with a highly developed health system, with clean drinking water, health care and high health standards for the general population. It was also a country where many different religious and political groups coexisted. However – thirst for oil and dominance has thrown this country into a huge disaster, leaving millions in misery – marked for life by radiation by the bombshells left over by the war-machines.

Afghanistan – a landlocked country that has been attacked by Western powers several since the British unsuccessfully attempted to make it a part of British India. But it was never conquered. Now it is also in deep trouble. 10 years of failed Russian occupation from 1979 to 1989 only cemented the resistance to foreign rule. When the US and UK attacked Afghanistan in 2003 – again people had to try to fend for themselves – and the many warlords could cement their power. As always, it is the poor who are the losers – with difficulties getting enough food, getting education and losing out on basic human rights. 19 billion dollars of foreign aid has basically not reached any of the poor in the country!
In this task you will learn about the considerations and tactics of the Western powers, headed by the US government.
