Introduction:

“The cause of development accepts the smallest contribution” – quote from the Charter.

Throughout Humana’s history it has first of all been the contributions from the MANY that have carried the back bone in the development work.

Everyone has the possibility to take part - and that has always been a vital development strategy.

From the hundreds of flee market held to collect money - from the 10 million people donating clothes every year to contribute to the development work - from the thousand of people in Europe and America who each year donate 10-20-25-or more dollars to Development Instructors fundraising, to the Development Instructors themselves who comes from over 80 nations around the world and of all ages and backgrounds and to the many millions that are reached by one of Humana’s projects. By 2011 there are 360 projects that are reaching out to around 11,5 million people in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

“It is our experience that development is an international and a national phenomenon in its own right. But it is at local levels and very much in the slums in the cities and in the villages in the countryside that it HAPPENS.” - quote from the Charter.

It has been the strategy from the beginning of Humana People to People to go to the rural areas in Africa where the majority of the people live and together with them work to change the situation. Getting them involved - working side by side and learning from each other and from the development work we do, building capacity, organizing committees, teaching etc. For Humana People to People there has never been any other way. Being an organization of ordinary people - having been inspired to start the organization from the meeting with ordinary people - it has always been the people in need that have caught our hearts and efforts.

Once all the ordinary people get involved, learn to master new skills and knowledge - nothing will ever be the same - their ideas changes, their ambitions change, they can achieve results by using their new capacities to pursue their dreams and work to meet their needs.

Today Humana People’s Projects work to improve all aspects of life for the people involved in the projects. Over the years, the projects’ capacity has increased significantly and so has the number of people involved. More and more activities are included in order to target more of the many calamities and difficulties facing life in rural areas.

The progress is obvious.
But so are the needs still to be addressed.
