The task is to take a stand to why you need to speak eloquent and fluent English.

Introduction:
Someone who is fluent in a particular language is someone who can speak the language easily and correctly. So to speak eloquent and fluent English means you should speak it freely and with ease.

Many learners of English as a second language have their own mother tongues which are in most cases very different from English. The native languages may have their own ways of speaking, grammatical rule, sentence constructions, pronunciations etc. In some languages the words are read as they are written but in English words maybe written in one way and read in another, some letters being silent or read in another way. A teacher should be well informed in these variations and take particular care when speaking and teaching English.

Even in the United Kingdom, English has a vast variety of the ways it is spoken. It is usually good to get used to speaking the standard English, which at times is called the BBC English. This variation is simpler and easier to understand especially outside the UK. It is not only in the UK that there are different ways English is spoken. Many countries have their own ways of speaking English. West Africans have their own ways, East Africans and Southern Africans also have their unique ways. Apart from these regional variations there are also ways different language groups speak English. The Bantu group for example have a way they pronounce words containing the letters, “l” and “r”. A teacher should try to correct these difficulties, which are a result of the influences of the mother tongues, if they want their learner to speak correctly and be understood even by English speakers from other parts of the World.

If the teacher himself speaks badly with poor pronunciation then his learners are doomed! They take everything that the teacher gives them and these mistakes can remain with them for life. They may be surprised that when they meet people from a different country they have difficulties in communication. The teacher himself might have been mislead at the beginning when he too was a learner. These difficulties can be corrected.

It is usually good to use good dictionaries such as Oxford Advance Learner's Dictionaries, The Cambridge Dictionaries, the Collins Dictionaries etc. These dictionaries have phonetic transcriptions, which give the correct ways of pronunciation. A teacher of English must teach himself how to use the phonetics symbols and use them to correct the pronunciation of the learners. It is good also to encourage learners to listen to BBC radio or other recommended Audio to develop listening speeches, vocabularies and understanding. A teacher himself can also gain a lot from personally listening to live or pre-recorded messages as these will give him tips to good English pronunciation and speaking.

Speaking a language correctly promotes understanding among speakers from different countries, so teachers must pay particular attention to this aspect of the language. It is not enough to be able to speak English. To learn to speak it correctly the most important is practice.
