Introduction:

It ought to be a surprise - that the Poor still exist in great numbers after 500 years of “civilization” - considering the niceties which especially in recent decades have accompanied World Bank loans and Structural Adjustment programs and WTA’s recommendations for opening up the borders for free trade and globalization. The Poor have even become poorer since 1980 with the help of IMF and World Bank medicines, which were said to be able to cure the patient. But they have not. The Poor have become poorer, and the preeminent doctors, IMF and the World Bank, the WTA and international finance capital appear to be like the international pharmaceutical companies, who profit from people staying sick and not so much from making them healthy.

All this is however just a continuation of former policies expressed in the form of systematic plundering of manpower made into slaves, next in the form of military occupation of Africa divided into colonies and followed by continued plundering and finally, in the modern form of formally independent states, but in practice more or less dependent states.

All this is eloquently and thoroughly described in the file “Fighting with the Poor”.

Here we will just add a comment to p.3 in the Instruction: Make a 10 line conclusion on what this (the global reasons for the situation of the Poor) might mean for the profession of “Fighting with the Poor” graduate. An example of what those reasons might mean for the profession could be:

Suppose that one such reason for the existence of the Poor is that the present world order is built on exploitation and feeds on exploitation. That would then have as a possible consequence for the profession that it must strive for the independence of the Poor and for sticking very much to the gun of the Poor being subject for all actions taken. Suppose that one other reason would entail the willed ignorance of the Poor. Then the consequence for the profession would be to share knowledge with the Poor.
… Enjoy the task!
