Wording:
The task is to make a course of 5 school hours to explain about Global Warming in primary school, deciding which points you find most crucial for them to understand and how you will get these messages across.
Time:
hours
Introduction:

The children of today will probably be the ones to be worst affected by Global Warming. In their lifetime, if they are allowed to live a full life, they will experience the devastating impact of a changing climate, the breakdown of society this will create in some places, but, and this is what we must work for, also that it is possible to organize productive and giving lives in spite of the warmer temperatures and the reduced opportunities.

The children need to understand what Global Warming actually is, what are the things that cause these changes, and what can or could be done to change this. They also need to know what interests are behind the current destructive practices and what we all are up against in order to change these practices.

Surely, they also need to organize efficiently to counter the damaging effects and to experience directly that it is possible to adapt to the coming changes.
In making a plan for course on Global Warming for a school class, you will need to consider how to get these various elements into the plan, how to enliven the children on the issue so they are eager to acquire knowledge about it, and what elements will bring them individual and collective experiences that will help them in their warmer future.
Directive:

1. Read the government curriculum guidelines for natural science and the school text books for grade 5-7.

2. Decide how Gaia could be part of the school program for one of these grades. Describe a week plan with clear headlines, and goals for students and include methods to be used such as investigations in the area around the school, or inviting parents to tell. (You may develop the plan with a fellow distance learner)

3. From the files, either watch the films or read the book, or do all of it.
4. Send the plan to your tutor.

You can watch the videos at the following links:

Al Gore - An Inconvenient Truth - URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZ5ug0QPJw8

Mark Lynas: 6 degrees - URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_pb1G2wIoA
