Wording:
The task is to study and discuss how "impossibilities" have been conquered and consider which coming inventions really will change everything.
Time:
hours
Introduction:
If we look around, the world is full of inventions that seamed impossible just 100 years ago or even 10 years ago. In 1890, the patent office in New York suggested that they closed, since they could not imagine any more new inventions. But how wrong they were.
In almost any field of human life do we see marvels: we can fly around the world and even to other planets, we can talk to a person on the other side of the globe through a small wireless devise, we can broadcast television to homes across the planet, we can send and receive messages in seconds from anywhere, we can cure numerous diseases that previously took lives…..and the list goes on an on. Surely Homo Sapiens have conquered the world, or have we?
Carl Sagan said, that the 20th century will be remembered for 3 things:

Our ability to prolong and enhance life.

Our ability to destroy life and for the first time ever, the ability to destroy the entire human civilization.

A tremendous ability to understand the smallest elements in our nature and the nature of the universe itself.

A crucial question is whether we today have the ability to create a world in peace and with abundance for all? Do we have the ability to team up in a symbiotic relation with the nature and environment around us? What inventions and changes would that take? What would life be like? How should everything be organized?
These are some of the big questions this task will be dealing with.
Directive:
This task is scheduled for 4 hours.

1. Study examples of how previous inventions have managed to do things that were considered impossible.
2. Read select parts from the file "This will change everything" on inventions you think will change the world.
3. Write an essay about you take on which inventions really will change everything.
4. Use your essay as an introduction to a debate evening at the school.
5. Send your essay and a conclusion of the debate to your teacher.
