The task is to learn about what it takes to provide good leadership and management of a project.

Introduction:
<p>A project needs a Project Leadership. It does not work without.</p> <p>Without a Project Leadership a project cannot develop, it does not know in which direction to move, and it will become random movements and random results. The staff will not know which the important questions to solve are and it will become up to each person to find or not to find solutions for various problems. There is no-one to gather the staff. Also people in the communities and people around the project can see that some good things are coming out of the project, because it still has a headline, but they will not be able to see the project reach its full potential. And it will be difficult for them to see which new steps are to be taken, because it is not clear. It is more likely the project will continue with what it has been doing, and will likely look the same years down the line. (If it has secured funding).</p> <p> </p> <p>With a Project Leadership the project has a person to point out direction and a person to gather the people in the project. There is a policy for the project, which means that the objective of the project is clear to everyone. There are descriptions for what to do concretely to actually reach the objectives. Plans are set out for years in advance and it is possible to see which new challenges to take on.</p> <p>There are plans and goals for each of the activities at the project. Some of the goals are directly measurable such as vegetable gardens started or latrines made. Other goals are not tangible in the same way, but are about understanding, attitudes and changing behaviors such as with HIV/AIDS.</p> <p>There are plans for expansion, to signal in what direction the project will move, without it the project will stagnate and go backwards.</p> <p>The tasks of leading and managing a project are many and all need attention to make the project become a lively entity, where the results stand out.</p> In this task you will learn about what it takes to lead and manage a project and you will practice yourself how to do this.
Directive:
This task is scheduled for 15 hours.<br /> <ol> <li>Interview your Project Leader about what it takes to lead and manage a project. Take notes.</li> <li>Read the file: “Leading and Managing”</li> <li>Make a list of the most essential qualities you need in leading and managing a project.</li> <li>Chose one of the project activities you have been leading and managing.</li> <li>Analyze your practice compared to your list of essential qualities.</li> <li>Conclude on what you need to train in order to develop your leadership and management skills.</li> <li>Present your conclusion to your Project Leader for (written) comments.</li> <li>Send all the writings to your tutor.</li> </ol>
