Time:
hours
Introduction:
The exam has been described by OWU to the distance learning office of the Ministry of Education in this way:

a) The student plans together with two other students an investigation of an important issue within education. The issue is primarily investigated locally but some travel can be included if it fits the topic and student. The issue must have significance on a provincial, national or even African level and should be put into this wider perspective. Topics could be: Advantages and disadvantages of primary education in the mother tongue, The primary school as center of literacy training, Reaching the Millennium Development Goals in education in our province, The linkage between quality primary education and good community health, etc...
The investigation includes interviews with people involved in or by the issue, studies of available written sources, discussion with colleagues at EPF or the primary school, experts, community members and children, as well as discussions in the group of three making the investigation.
The report gives a thorough description of the investigation methods; it presents background information and a conclusion that has proposed actions inspired by the issue. Pictures, graphs, tables, examples of interviews or other illustrations can be used. The student must also in the report show understanding of the concepts of the research process such as distinguishing between problematic, presumptions, hypothesis, conclusion and personal judgment.
The report is at least 15 pages text (not counting whole pages of illustrations) and is written jointly by the group. The findings of the report are presented to people involved in the problem at a community meeting, a school meeting or a meeting with government officials. A two page conclusion of the meeting is added to the report before it is sent to OWU.
Finally each of the three students writes one page where they summarizes their own effort and what they have learnt in the process including what they have learnt from cooperating with others on making the investigation.

b) The student presents the investigation on a video conference exam for half an hour with focus both on the methodology of the investigation and the content of the research. The OWU examiner will challenge the report and the student must defend its findings.
