Introduction:
Getting to this Another Kind of School, meeting your team and to get started is all so very exciting. Reading the program book, understanding parts of it, now we are going. But where are the plans? What to do each part of the day? Has the teacher not prepared well and where is she by the way? There she comes. She looks happy and prepared, so maybe now is the time to get our schedule.<br /> No, what she brings is the message and explanation that the team must make the schedule together.<br /> <br /> The team goes together and starts to debate; When shall the studies take place? Shall all work from the class room, or can each study group decide where and when to work? How to take care of the team’s responsibility areas, how about a green hour? When to go fundraising and what about the preparation? Where to go for investigations, and can it be done quickly? So many things to do, and time seems not to be enough. The team decides to make a big calendar on the white board, and start plotting in fixed activities and adding all the rest. Many discussions come from the planning, something seeming to be a technical exercise, shows to have much more to it.<br /> <br /> In the beginning it was only a few who participated in the planning, the rest of the group were mostly looking and listening. This method seems to work well, as it was much easier for a few to decide and plot activities in the calendar, but suddenly the teacher interrupts again. She starts to ask all kind of questions to those who did not participate actively. Some reacted, as this was just taking more time, and another debate came forth.<br /> <br /> Doing the planning in the team, and insisting all participate result in the team and each member taking ownership of their plans. It is an act of empowerment and it includes all.<br />

Write a one-page text where you share your thoughts, feelings and what you have learnt on the topic "Planning your training of the first period", based on the following statements: <ul> <li>Meet with your team and plan the first period of your program.</li> <li>Write what this experience did to you in the course of thinking “traditional school” and Another Kind of School.</li> </ul> 2. Send the text to your teacher.
