Time:
hours
Introduction:
Freshly returned from the country where you worked in the project period you have a lot on your heart and on your mind.

All the impressions, experiences and memories are still fresh in your mind; you have come close to people living their life totally different from what you know about from before; you have encountered many new situations and seen people’s living conditions, working conditions and relations that you would not have imagined; you have seen the world in a bigger perspective, and understood more about the values of life than you had before; you have through your work at the project contributed to making life better for so many people......

You probably have the same feeling as so many DIs before you: You want to tell about it, you want to show the pictures and tell the stories, you want to discuss ....maybe you even told some of your friends at the project that you would tell people in Europe about ‘it’.

In this task you will convey your experiences and impressions and bring your message to the public – either in your home country or in the country of your DRH school....and you will probably also find out that the process of preparing the speech itself helps you to understand more about the world we live in.

Enjoy!
Directive:

Take a piece of paper. Zoom in on the main points in you speech; what is it you want to tell people – what shall be the impact your speech will have made on your audience when you have finished – what do you want them to understand? – what is THE MESSAGE? write it down

Decide whom the speech shall be for and where you will make it first (you can use the same speech/message and change a bit on the methods according to the audience)

Take a piece of paper and write your message(s) in the middle of the paper – now write words and sentences around the message(s); these will be the ways and methods you will use to let your audience reach through to the message. – here you write keywords / a song / some special music / discussion points / pictures / a story you will tell or .......

Decide how long time the speech will take, and how much time for discussions

Make the first appointment of where you will give the speech in a public place

Write the sequence of the points in your speech – what will you talk about when / when will you use the methods you thought out under point 2

Depending on how you prefer it, now write either (1) the keywords for what you want to say – (2) write the main sentences – (3) or write the whole speech word by word .... the goal is that you will have an aid that will ensure you to speak about what you have decided and prepared, it will keep you on the right track so to say

Now you have the speech! Go to some quiet place where you are alone (the forest or the beach or a field or a garden or an empty room) and practice your speech; don’t forget to check how long time it takes

Make the improvements you want, and invite some DI colleagues and/or tutor to act as the audience and give their comments

Give the speech where you made the appointment; invite some DI colleagues to join in, they should take pictures during the event, and together with them you can afterwards discuss how it went / what to improve or change, so the next time will be even better.

Send the speech to your tutor, include a summary of how it went and don’t forget to add a few pictures.

GOD LUCK! This task is interesting for you and it is also interesting for your audience J
