The task is to learn about the background and consequences of Saudi Arabia's war on Yemen.

Introduction:
<p><span style="font-size:14pt">Yemen is the poorest country in the Middle East. It has 26 million people, and its </span><span style="font-size:14pt">young population is growing fast. 60% of women and girls are illiterate. Yemen is </span><span style="font-size:14pt">located at the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula facing Eritrea across the Red </span><span style="font-size:14pt">Sea and Somalia across the Indian Ocean. At the time of the prophet Muhammad, </span><span style="font-size:14pt">the country converted to Islam. By then it was the richest country in the region.</span></p> <span style="font-size:14pt">On March 25, 2015, Saudi Arabia began bombing its southern neighbor Yemen </span><span style="font-size:14pt">because they wanted to stop the advance of Houthi fighters. Hospitals, power and </span><span style="font-size:14pt">water stations have been destroyed and millions of Yemenis are without food. </span><span style="font-size:14pt">After six weeks, 300,000 people have been forced to flee, and more than 1,200 </span><span style="font-size:14pt">people have been killed, according to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, among </span><span style="font-size:14pt">them many children and other civilians. He also called the attack <span style="color:#262626">“unacceptable </span></span><span style="color:#262626; font-size:14pt">and in violation of international humanitarian law.” </span><span style="font-size:14pt">The Saudis say they want to </span><span style="font-size:14pt">reestablish what they call the legitimate government of former president Hadi, who </span><span style="font-size:14pt">was driven from power by the Houthis in January 2015 and then fled to Saudi </span><span style="font-size:14pt">Arabia. Hadi had become president in a 2012 election in which he was the only </span><span style="font-size:14pt">candidate. His term expired in 2014, and he would not have been elected if he had allowed an election to take place. </span>
