Introduction:
There are so many forms of art, and ‘artistic work’ has hundreds of different meanings.<br /> <br /> Art has been - and still is - being used to express the innermost feelings of the artist; art is a form of expression, and very often art is used by the artist to convey political ideas and express opinions and ‘throw light’ on some issues in society. We all know at least some examples of painters, filmmakers, poets, songwriters, novelists and composers of music. <br /> <br /> Art has the quality that it can challenge one to think, it can provoke, it can even disturb – it awakes feelings. Art can also be used to inspire, to connect, and to encourage peace in the world. Many artists want to create work that has a social impact, but this has not been the role of art through all of history. Many ancient civilizations were using art solely as an expression of culture and religion.<br /> <br /> Through poetry, music, photography, video, film and theater, communities can take a stand and change the way people think about something.<br /> <br /> Art is a tool for change - art can remind people that they need to care.
