Introduction:

In this task you will become acquainted with some of the scientists who predicts enormous advantages for mankind in the future due to the research going on in gene technology, quantum theory and cosmology.&nbsp; 
They propose evidence for the claim that science seems to be on the verge of providing what religion once offered - a genuine prospect of physical immortality and the option to understand the deepest mysteries of life, the universe and the human spirit. 
Scientists such as Ray Kurzweil and Damien Broderick believe that the technological progress will by the year 2045 enable mankind to construct machines with human capacities, that the human brain will be able to work much faster and that we have beaten the aging process and will basically be able to live forever. That through gene technology we will be able to create organisms that will solve many of the big issues we have in the world today &ndash; like energy supply, fighting diseases and hunger. 
This is a very optimistic view of the future and mindboggling to think about. 
And it also raises a lot of questions about the consequences and what we do with the mega issues facing our world today. 
&nbsp; 
In this task, you will be able to get a glimpse of what their ideas are &ndash; if you wish to study more, you can get hold of their book: 
Ray Kurzweil: &ldquo;The Singularity is Near&rdquo; and Damien Broderick: &ldquo;The Last Mortal Generation&rdquo;. 
&nbsp; 
Damien Broderick writes: 
&ldquo;&ldquo;Everything you think you know about the future is wrong." 
Machines will exceed human intelligence within decades and then quickly leap to super-human intelligence.&nbsp; 
Disease will fall at last under our control, aging and even death will be abolished.&nbsp; 
Houses will be built cheaply from diamond and sapphire, compiled like software. 
Food and power will be abundant, created by virus-sized Nano machines&rdquo;.
