Introduction:

The United States makes no secret of its view at itself as the global leadership &ndash; the biggest super power now that the Cold War has ended, the defender of the free world and democracy. This is a position it has given itself and in numerous official documents it presents plans for how it is going to exercise this leadership. 
What is said in unofficial documents, we can only speculate about. However, today we know quite a lot about what the secret plans were in the past, since many of them have been exposed and people around the world have been subjected to them. Also, the US has acted several times in disregard to international institutions such as the UN and NATO. 
This has raised many questions around the world of the right and desire of the US as our global leadership. 
The view of the US is ambivalent &ndash; on one hand there is a desire to copy and adopt wester cultures (=US culture) and on the other hand, US is quite unpopular in many part of the world. A fact that most ordinary Americans are unaware of. The presidential campaign for the 2016 election, has revealed a deep divided in the US itself.

In this task you will study some of the secret and not so secret plans of the US as they are presented in documentaries and official documents.

	<li>How do the Think Tank and the US Department of Defense define US global leadership and what are their arguments?</li>
	<li>Watch the Oliver Stone documentary: &ldquo;Incredible Secrets of the United States&rdquo; from youtube.</li>
	<li>What was the most surprising secrets you learnt about in the documentary? Do you think the US still have secret plans for how to exercise leadership and control?</li>

	<li>Why does the US build military bases all over the world?</li>
	<li>Taking the contents of the files and documentary you have studies into account, what is the picture of the future that comes into your mind? When looking at global poverty and climate change as two of the major issues in the world today, how are these issues reflected in the future plans you have studied? What is your conclusion?</li>
