The task is to study the report by the National Intelligence Council of the US Government about the global development towards 2030.
Time:
hours
Introduction:
In December 2012, the National Intelligence Council – an agency of the United States Government - published a report called: “Global Trends 2030 – Alternative Worlds”. In the report, the authors describe the mega-trends as they see them until the year 2030, they identify so-called “game-changers”, talk about “black swans” that could influence development in unpredictable ways and finally about “Alternative Worlds”.
The authors write in the foreword:
“We are at a critical juncture in human history, which could lead to widely contrasting futures. It is our contention that the future is not set in stone, but is malleable, the result of an interplay among megatrends, game-changers and, above all, human agency. Our effort is to encourage decision makers — whether in government or outside—to think and plan for the long term so that negative futures do not occur and positive ones have a better chance of unfolding.”

In this task, you will study the report and consider its implications.
