Introduction:
Each culture around the world has its own unique artistic expressions.
Africa has an old and very colourful tradition. It is only in recent history that African languages became written languages, and many of them are still today only spoken languages. To pass on the history of the tribe, or to teach the new generations about right and wrong in life, or to celebrate milestones in life, artistic expressions such as songs, dances, paintings, proverbs, poems and story telling are used.
Most Development Instructors are taken by surprise when encountering the cultural life of people around the project – especially singing and dancing, which are a natural and integrated part of life.
In this task you will be seeking out people in the community who master different artistic expressions. The whole purpose is for you to learn more about the culture of the people in your community so you can bring that to the public, when you return to your school.
Directive:

Ask people at the project or in the community which artists are good to visit.

Set up an appointment and find a translator.

Make the visits and collect pieces of art (paintings, stone sculptures, wood carvings…..), gather stories, poems, proverbs, and learn about their meaning. Record songs and dances on video.

Bring it all back to use in the Journal Period.

Write a conclusion describing your experience and send it to your teacher.
