Wording:
The task is to make a series of catching posters with a message.
Time:
hours
Introduction:
Posters are used around the world for numerous purposes.
United Nations publishes posters to create awareness about global issues they have on the agenda.
In communist China, posters played a big role in spreading messages about the policies of the government to the millions of illiterate peasants.
In my school days, we were surrounded by posters of how to live healthy, of plants and animals, on traffic rules and scenes from the bible. And at home in my room, the entire ceiling and all walls were plastered with posters of my favourite music groups.
In India, the Ministry of Agriculture developed multiple posters to teach small farmers about the Green Revolution.
When the HIV/AIDS epidemic hit front pages around the world, a lot of posters were produced as part of getting the epidemic under control.
When the Vietnam War started the anti war movements around the world picked up the peace sign as a symbol and it was published a many different varieties on posters.
Some posters have made it into history – like the famous “I Want You”- poster with Uncle Sam pointing a finger at you – mobilizing young American men to join the US army in 1917.
Posters can be a powerful tool in getting a message out to people and it is an art in itself to compose them so they are catching.
Good luck with doing just that!
