The task is to get a firm understanding on HIV/AIDS, what it is, how it works, and how to prevent it.
Time:
hours
Introduction:
In less than two decades, more than 65 million people have contracted the HIV virus globally, and of these people 22 million have died from HIV related illnesses (mostly from AIDS) 17 million of them have been from Africa. Africa remains the hardest hit continent: with less than eleven percent of the total global population, the continent has more than 70 percent of all HIV/AIDS related cases in the world. As well as a harrowing catalogue of lives lost, the implications of this human tragedy reach into the structure of economies, the capacity of institutions, the integrity of communities, and the viability of families. In the extreme, the survival of some states may even be called into question. Already, communities across large parts of the continent are facing a day-to-day reality of declining standards of living, reduced capacities for personal and social achievement, and an increasingly uncertain future. This in turn profoundly constrains what can be achieved today. Meanwhile HIV/AIDS is also diminishing the capacity of African states to maintain what has been secured over past decades in terms of social and economic development.

HIV/AIDS has a big impact all over the world, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. It is a preventable disease when people have the right knowledge and attitude. In this task you will get the basics of HIV and AIDS.
Directive:
This task is scheduled for 5 hours.

Read the files

A health clinic near your project in Africa asked you to make a “Question and Answer” or FAQ on basic HIV/AIDS knowledge. The clinic made the questions; you have to give the answers in such a way that many people (often poorly educated) can understand. An illustration says more than a thousand words.

What does HIV mean?

What does AIDS mean?

What is the difference between HIV and AIDS?

How to get AIDS?

How NOT to get AIDS?

Why are especially women vulnerable?

What is a HIV test?

When & why should there be a test?

What is the immune system?

What is a CD4 cell?

How does a HIV virus multiply?

What to do to take care of a person who has HIV/AIDS?

On a global scale, what is the division between people having HIV/AIDS and health access?

What can you do to prevent HIV/AIDS?

Send your document to your teacher
