Introduction:
We are all familiar with the saying “pictures speaks louder than words” (or is it “actions”? – never mind, this saying can be used here anyway). Pictures can in one glance tell a whole story, speak to your emotions, calm you down or set your mind spinning, depending on what the photographer wishes to express.
But it is not easy to take good pictures; pictures that tell a story.
It requires planning. It is considering what you want to show, the lighting, the angles, the size, the surroundings, etc.
Today with the digital camera, most people do not think twice before taking pictures – they can just be deleted again. There is a whole culture of taking pictures with digital cameras or mobile phones and posting them online.
To do this task, requires a totally different type of approach and seriousness.
I have seen many students over the years returning from travels and development work with hundreds of pictures to discover that if they wanted to make some quality products such as books, brochures or exhibition, most of them were useless. If for example you wish to blow up a picture to poster size, it has to be high resolution to stay sharp.
Hopefully you read this introduction BEFORE going to Africa, India or South America, so you can be on the forefront of planning which pictures you want to take and bring back – what are the messages you wish to bring to the public?
Photography is an art – and anyone taking photographing seriously is also very picky with what camera to use. And there is a huge difference in the quality depending on the camera.
You can also choose to make painting or drawings or a combination.
Directive:

Look at the pictures taken by the winners of the “World Press Photos” from 2011, 2012 and 2013 as inspiration.

Decide what you want to tell with the exhibition.

Decide if you want to use photos or painting/drawings or a combination.

Make the layout – deciding how many pictures – what each of them should tell – and THEN go hunting for the motives.

Get comments from your team mates and teachers during the process.

Finish the exhibition and organize how to bring it to the public.

Write a conclusion and send it to your teacher.
