Introduction:
The means of production are the resources and equipment by which goods and services are created. These include machines, tools, buildings, equipment, infrastructure, etc. The term applies to these means independent of their ownership, and regardless of whether the mode of production is capitalist, feudal, slave or communal.<br /> <br /> The development of the means of production in our era has been essential in making globalization possible.<br /> <br /> It is important to analyze why specific means of production are developed and promoted. The primary driver in a capitalist society is obviously the profit motive, but it is more complex than that. The profit motive alone does not explain why some technologies are promoted and others are not.<br /> <br /> It is easy to be impressed by the gigantic development of the means of production in our era of globalization. However, one needs to analyze what these means of production are used for, how they are used, and if they actually improve the lives of people.<br /> <br /> As you study more about the means of production you can see if they are developed accordingly to the interests of the corporate world or of the people.<br />
