Wording:
The task is to get an understanding on what common sicknesses are and what to do against them.
Time:
hours
Introduction:
When one researches about common sicknesses, one will find many that are common in our part of the world like: influenza, the cold, headaches, ear/eye infections, sore throat, children’s diseases, viral infections, vomiting and diarrhea.
These diseases often aren’t dangerous and after a day or so people are fit enough to work again. A doctor’s visit often is enough to get common antibiotics or another kind of medicine to help you on your way.

Common sicknesses in the countries we travel to are often very different and much more serious, as the local conditions are so different than ours.
Common sicknesses can be dehydration, diarrhea, and dysentery, to name a few. The reasons for getting these sicknesses are also different than what we know from our own experiences.

The task is to study more about common sicknesses in the areas you will travel to. You will learn the different backgrounds of these sicknesses and what you can do about them.
Directive:
This task is scheduled for 4 hours.

1. Read the file: Some very common sicknesses, from "Where there is no Doctor”, by David Werner.
2. Think about what sicknesses are common at your projects, not where you are coming from.
3. What can you do for yourself to prevent from getting sick with common sicknesses?
4. Get a general understanding in what conditions you will live in at your project, and think out systems that prevent you from getting sick.
5. Write your thoughts on point 2 - 4 in about 2 pages and send to your teacher for comments.
