Title:
Wording:
The task is to plan and carry out a project shoulder to shoulder with the group of Poor aimed at improving the lot of the Poor.
Time:
hours
Introduction:
You have now come to carrying out the project you have planned with the group of Poor. The project may be one large project such as setting up businesses with groups of Poor or establishing clean drinking water and irrigation systems for a village. The project can also consist of a series of (smaller) actions aimed at boosting the capacity of the group of Poor.

In all cases your personal effort shoulder to shoulder with the group of Poor and the cooperation with your fellow student is crucial. You will have to be mobilizer, inspirator, instructor, problem solver, fundraiser, contact to authorities and more.

The nature of the project depends on the group chosen, and the activities possible in the area and in the particular community. It can be organized as a 3-week concentrated action – or it can be of longer duration with a less intense schedule so that you do the project while caring for other responsibilities within Humana People to People.

As inspiration to what a (smaller) action can be and how it can be described the attached files show examples of 8 community actions with groups of Poor which have been made for instruction manuals used by Humana People to People project leaders who train to obtain a South African certificate in Community Development Management.

Your project fighting with a group of Poor might be an expanded version of one such action or could include several actions. Through the project the group of Poor learn new skills important to improving their situation – and you as a fighter by their side learn valuable skills you can apply in new circumstances in the ongoing struggles for bettering the conditions for the Poor in our world today.
Directive:
This task is scheduled for 120 hours.

As inspiration read through the 8 short examples of community actions.

Prepare yourself to implement the project plans you have made in previous tasks. (If your work at a Humana People to People project you should – as mentioned in previous tasks make sure you are in accordance with the Project Leadership and if relevant the NHQ of your country.)

Carry out the plans. Solve all the new and unforeseen obstacles that might show up along the way as well as you can – keeping in mind that you are struggling shoulder to shoulder with the group of Poor so that this group is of primary importance in all steps you take.

Keep a journal of the day to day activities, where you note whether you have followed or deviated from the plans and describe the challenges and achievements of the day. If you have had major discussions or have learnt important new things during the day, write that down as well, so that you later have a record of how the project developed. Your journal together with your plans you are going to use when you write your project report in the next task.

At the end of the project conclude together with the group of Poor.

Discuss the conclusion with your fellow student and write a one-page summary and send it to your teacher.
