Introduction:
Humanity has gone through many processes relatively fast. From the first humans till today we have managed to change the world in unbelievable ways. But there are parts of our lives that seem to follow some kind of patterns or pre-establish agreements. Society and the political powers have been the driving forces of history, and when you look back you can identify the direction that such powers were taking us. Today is not different, certain people strive for power, others fight for freedom and a huge population just exists, as aliens of their own existence. When the capitalists of the 19th century started their businesses and established their system as the superstructure and as the force running the world, big transformations came about and it had particular consequences for some people. Marx decided to study and debate the issues that affected the society of those times. Perhaps, if we look closer today we can find similarities in the current century.

Some of the many issues that Marx pointed out are: 1) the importance of production for the capitalist and for the worker, 2) the role of work in a social and on a personal level, and 3) how to create an equal and fair society.

The capitalist industrialization separated the worker from his production. Take for example a typical person in a factory putting together the pieces to make a computer but never being able to buy a computer himself. The production of this person is not his; the owner of that production is the capitalist. To understand better, you can think of a farmer and compare their work. A farmer owns the land that he uses to produce food. He works according to his need, he can decide to produce surplus and sell it to earn some money. But he can also decide just to produce what he needs to eat and use the rest of the time for other kinds of production that satisfies him. The farmer owns his production and can feel proud of it. The factory worker can’t, so the worker can only be himself when he is not at work. In this way he becomes a stranger in his own life.

Find this quote as an inspiration:
“The alienation of the worker from his product does not only mean that his labor becomes an object, an external entity, but also that it exists outside him, independently, as something alien, that it turns into a power on its own confronting him, that the life which he has given to his product stands against him as something strange and hostile.”
