Introduction:
Did you know how the UN Charter looked like before reading it? And how was your understanding about the United Nations before you started studying about how the world of today is really functioning?

Reading the Charter and discussing the double standards that are being used by the United Nations on different aspects might be a real eye-opener. Understanding deeper why and how certain countries are sometimes allowed to invade other countries, while other countries will feel harsh consequences if they do so. Understanding how the UN is organized and dominated in reality by the Security Council with five permanent members that as the only countries have veto power,. Does this not contradict the stated goal of the cooperation? Are the developed countries dominating the United Nations and doing it in such a way that they defend first their own interests? Or is every member country participating and deciding according to some higher ethical standard of common purpose as stated in many declarations? Does each and every country on this planet benefit equally from the activities and moral authority of the United Nations?

Getting into a deeper understanding of who is leading the multilateral organizations and how they function can create a manifold of reactions. Is it depressing and de-motivating to know that even the UN seems to be misguided? Or does it awaken the activist in you and are you motivated to move things in another way? Does it make you change course? Does it change the way you thought about development? A whole lot of questions can arise from discussing the topic.
