Introduction:
Looking back at technological developments of the last decades, we can only ascertain that things have gone extremely fast compared to times before that.<br /> <br /> Maybe you remember when having a mobile phone was an absolute privilege, only available for those wealthy few. And not too long after, everyone around you had one. And not too long after, everyone around you started to acquire smart phones and tablets.<br /> <br /> Maybe you remember when the first personal computers came to your house. And using a computer, which replaced the typewriter, seemed still complicated. Only a decade ago the Internet started to really develop, and the first signs of a global merging of knowledge where becoming visible. And not too long after, we could never imagine a life without Google or Wikipedia available at all times.<br /> <br /> Many equipments and tools have slipped into our lives without we ever really realizing that things were changing fast. Traveling by airplane became a regular good for the middle class, microwaves got into everyone’s houses, different kinds of gaming consoles, cars with more and more electronics, podcasts, online streaming, DVD’s replacing VHS and BluRay replacing DVD, mp3 replacing CD, laser technology, digitalization of nearly everything, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, new products exploding into a mass market of consumers, etc. This list of changes that happened very recently is literally endless as new things are slipping into our daily life every day.<br /> <br /> If we never say stop, take a minute to look back at how much life has changed throughout the last decennia, we might not even realize what is going on around us. Our generation - we could call it the Internet (or Facebook) generation - is growing older in a very peculiar time in history. Are we lucky to stand here in the middle of all this development and all this overwhelming luxury? Or are we maybe unlucky growing older in a more and more individualized world, where social contact seems to become less and less important?
