Wording:
The task is to consider how multinational companies constrain the lives of nations and people all over the world and how nations and peoples of countries in development can rise up and defend themselves against the multinationals.
Time:
hours
Introduction:
In 2011, Africa became the USA’s largest supplier of oil, a larger supplier than the
Middle East.

We already know that being an oil supplier to this world power can result in conflict,
even war.

In this task you are going to study the nature and the origin of multinational
companies and you will also study an example of an oil war in the 1960s.

Based on your studies, you will discuss how to defend against influential people and
nations and from the interests of multinational companies – and why this is even
more relevant now with the changing reality that puts Africa at the centre of the fight
for the riches of the world.

It is also an example of how to use historical experience in the debate about how we
can act in the future.
Directive:
1. Read History Front: On the nature and origin of the multinational
company.

2. Point out 5 examples of how multinational companies dominates the
world today.

3. Write you opinion on what this means for nations and people around
the world. What actions could or should be taken by governments and
people in developing nations about this?

4. Read History Front: The Biafra war and the struggle between British
and French oil companies. Do you think any of the wars in the world
today have oil companies as important players/partners? Give
examples if you can. Consider what this means to people.

5. Send your writings to the above two points to your tutor.
