The task consists of explaining how the struggles in the Portuguese colonies started and how and in which way they were interconnected.

Introduction:
In the article “The Fights for Freedom in Portuguese Africa” from the book The<br /> Front of History and the article “Resistance – the search for a national movement”<br /> by Eduardo Mondlane, you will find some important discussions about the<br /> connection between the African people’s fight in the Portuguese colonies and the<br /> nationalism that was one of the characteristics of liberation in Portuguese Africa.<br /> We can only imagine the efforts necessary for coordinating the struggles in Angola,<br /> Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau and St Thomas, against the same colonial power,<br /> Portugal.<br /> <br /> There were not the means of communication that are available to us today; there was<br /> no money to travel, there were political constraints and huge risks.<br /> <br /> But there were also people like Eduardo Mondlane, who was perfectly capable of<br /> clearly outlining the needs for the fight.<br /> <br /> You can take advantage of this task to understand what the struggles for<br /> independence and freedom were like.

1. Read History Front: The liberation struggles in Portuguese Africa as a<br /> general introduction to the subject.<br /> <br /> 2. Read the text by Eduardo Mondlane: Resistance – the search for a<br /> national movement.<br /> <br /> 3. Explain how the struggles in the Portuguese colonies got started and<br /> how they were connected.<br /> <br /> 4. Point out similarities in the way the national liberation movement of<br /> each country fought for independence.<br /> <br /> 5. Take notes for the work with the final task of this section.
