Wording:
The task is to investigate and discuss some visions of the future as expressed by corporations.
Time:
hours
Introduction:
Since capitalism became the global economic system, corporations have grown in
size, wealth, and influence. Many corporations today handle an economy much
larger than many national states and they operate across national borders, as if they
did not exist.

In the neighborhood of your school, there is probably at least one branch or office of
an international corporation.

Internationally, an increasing amount of wealth is gathered on fewer and fewer huge
corporations.

One could say many things about the methods used by corporations to gain their
power and wealth, but one thing is for sure – they have planned the strategies and
they also have visions and plans for the future, because if they do not constantly
renew themselves and expand, they are out of business.

In this task you will investigate and discuss some visions of the future as they are
expressed by corporations –through their websites, advertisements, the sector as a
whole and also through actually visiting and interviewing corporate leaders.

How do they plan to stay in business in a growing competition?

How do they incorporate the huge changes mankind is facing in the coming decades
due to global warming, climate change, and peak oil?

What is their take on the growing number of poor people and the growing gap
between rich and poor?
Directive:
1. Arrange for a visit to a big company in your area and prepare your
questions on how the direction looks at the future – also by studying about
this corporate sector on the Internet or the library.

2. Carry out the visit.

3. Write a 5 page report summarizing the outlook.

4. Send the report to your teacher.
