The task is to investigate where and how governments and citizens are working together to adapt to the Climate Changes
Time:
hours
Introduction:
Climate Changes will have a decisive effect on all parts of the planet, and in this
respect it is important that, what has to be done, is a result of a common effort from
all parties involved. The citizens with their daily work and activities are one part, the
different business sectors with their production and activities are another important
partThe governments are meant to decide the frames and conditions for the activities
and the production and, through that, how effective the adaption to Climate Changes
will be, or if there will an adaption at all.

It is thus important that the governments not only acknowledge there is a problem to
address, but also decides to be in the front in taking care of it. This is not always the
case. Some governments are taken progressive steps, others hesitate to take the
problem serious, and others again feel forced to further traditional economic growth
through continued use of fossil fuels. Especially gas, but also coal, is relatively
cheap at the moment. Other sources of energy may require more investments. Their
concern is often how to balance the different economic interests in the society and
their interests in getting re-elected.

The businesses are divided upon the matter depending on what source of energy they
have based their production. Many businesses though do take steps towards a more
green production, because a green profile is profitable towards their customers.
Their main claim to the politicians is mainly to make general regulations so they can
compete on equal ground. Their concern is in principal economic.

The citizens are sometimes left in a situation with a doubt upon what to do because
of this hesitation from the political and economical interests involved. At the same
time many ordinary people around the globe have experienced more frequent
extreme weather situations resulting in heavy rain and floods, or droughts, or fierce
hurricanes or tornados, all causing great damages to their life and property. The
understanding of that we have to react towards changes in the climate is widely
accepted of the people around in the different regions of the earth, and in many
places people act upon this. Their concern is the fundaments for their life and
property, sometimes even their life itself.

It is obvious that if all parties work together towards the same goals the actions
taken will have a decisive effect. Though the general debate about climate changes
has not been so distinct in the recent years, there have been initiatives on a broad
scale.

There are initiatives all over the world in different scales. This task is about Europe
where the implications from the climate changes have different consequences e.g. in
the north and in the south. Southern Europe will likely face less rain and can e.g. in
Spain lead to a beginning desertification process. There can be more droughts in big
parts of Europe, more heavy rain and floods all over, but especially in Central
Europe. All parts will face a rising sea level, a problem for the many European cities
at the sea or along rivers. Increasing temperatures in the north and the Arctic area
will introduce more traffic and more mining activities, both potential dangerous to
the environment there. Increasing temperatures will also implicate changed
cultivation patterns, the borders for crops to grow will extend to the north. So will
the flora and the fauna, and so will various diseases like malaria.

Europe, and EU, has for some years been in the front in advocating a transition to
renewable energies from fossil fuels to mitigate the climate changes. The goals have
been relatively high according to other parts of the world, but not so impressing if
we compare to what is needed. This task is to investigate what are eventual common
initiatives to adapt to the climate changes we face now and in the future.
