The task is to plan, prepare and bring It with an Open House for hundreds of people in the area around Tvind.
Time:
hours
Introduction:
Open House is a popular event organized by the schools in Tvind for the
surrounding communities and everybody else interested in joining together in
fun and educational programmes. This is already a tradition of the schools and
sometimes hundreds of people participate in it. It usually happens once a
month and every few months it has an extended programme.

At DNS, you can arrange and organize an Open House, where you invite
many people for an especially rich programme with presentations,
experiences, games, workshops, sports, music, dances, exhibitions, guided
tours around the schools, flea market and everything you can imagine. A lot
of good food and fun are the essential parts of it!

Besides being fun, this moment is also a collective way for you to tell about
your ‘It’. For that, you must decide together with your comrades exactly what
you, your teammates and schoolmates will do.

You should all be aware that this is not a child’s play, nor a mere academic
exercise. It is a serious business! Besides educating all students, teachers and
the community, it is also a way to integrate Tvind into the local communities
and spread its image as an important modern institution, in the country and in
the world.

Therefore choose your It wisely. Should It be focused more on politics or
rather on arts? Maybe a combination of both won’t make a bad idea? Should
it be about a global issues or something that is concerning people in Ulfborg?
Farmer’s Market might be as important as Climate Fair. Bussing in Africa is
exciting and so is the pedagogical work the Tvind schools do.

While choosing your It, consider your Public. Your arrangement can be a
success if it speaks the language of the local people and connects to their
expectations. Big and small everybody should find something for him- or
herself.

The process of preparation for this event will also teach you what working
together as a team means. You will meet many conflicts and challenges that
will only strengthen your comradeship, you as a team and you as an
individual.

Make it an amazing event!
Directive:
1. Decide in the Common Meeting the It of the Open House.

2. Divide the responsibilities and form a committee of the students and
teachers to take responsibility for the programme schedule and ensure that
guests receive their invitations.

3. Set a goal of how many people you would like to come to the event. Make
a good plan of promotion and organization of the event. Remember about the
important practicalities like food and accommodation.

4. What is the It of the Open House? How is it relevant for you and for the
Public?

5. Promote the event in the local area and via Internet. Invite your friends and
relatives.

6. Participate actively in the preparations for the Open House, and in the event
as such. Be active in hosting the guests. It’s the common responsibility to
make it a memorable event!

7. Clean after the event.

8. Receive a course in Bringing It to the Public where you conclude on the
Open House.

9. Write a two-page summary about your experience and analysis of the
event. You can decide in your Core Group to make specific questions to be
answered in the summary. As examples, you can use the following ones:

-How were you involved in promoting the Open House?

-What were your responsibilities in organizing the event? How did you plan
to fulfill them?

-What were the challenges you met during the preparation for the Open House
and during the event itself? How have you overcome them?

-How good was this event in terms of Bringing It to the Public? Discuss the
impact the Open House has made on the Public and you.

-How will you finally conclude upon the event?

10. Send your answer to the point 4. and the summary to your teacher.

-Attach the file explaining the programme of the Open House and the division
of the tasks.

-If possible attach also some pictures of videos showing you in action during
the preparations of the event itself.

-Add also the files you created in your responsibility area, in example:
shopping list, food menus plan, presentation, products of a workshop etc.

Remarks:
It might be necessary for some of the tasks to be done few months ahead.
They are usually prepared by a committee formed of few teachers and
students.
