Introduction:

Life is the greatest play there is! 
 
During the bus journey, on encountering the environment: the people, the streets, the 
different dwellings, the capital cities, everything appeared to resemble, or even be, 
part of a show. 
 
We know that you have learned a lot on this African adventure. You have talked to 
families, farmers and workers, children and adults and have visited tourist sites and 
schools; it all seemed like a film, where your heart longed to get closer but did not 
have time to do so as there was still a long journey ahead. 
 
You have made good speeches and presentations along with the communities you 
have visited, and these communities really enjoyed it. In the evenings you listened to 
interesting stories from the elders, children and young people. But now you are in 
Mozambique! How will you share what you have learned with the community? 
Try to choose a really interesting topic to share with Mozambican children which is 
suitable for 10 primary schools. 
 
To write a play, firstly: you need a concept or an idea of what the play is about. 
Secondly: the audience must be able to catch the message immediately; strive for 
simplicity. Thirdly: you need to think roughly about how many people will come 
and watch, so that your voices are heard and your message reaches the audience. 
Fourthly: your play must be universal and suitable for primary schools. Remember 
that the message is aimed at numerous children in 10 schools, so it must be really 
interesting. The play&rsquo;s length must be limited, 15 minutes for example, so that there 
is enough time to perform it during a class and listen to feedback at the end. 
 
Rehearse well and learn your part by heart. This task requires lots of teamwork, 
communication and ownership. With this advice I hope that everything goes 
smoothly.

Directive:

1. Agree in your Core Group who will make agreements with 10 primary schools. 
 
2. Decide on the topic and length of the play. 
 
3. Draft the play: characters, action, sites, clothing and other necessary material. 
The message must be really interesting and suitable for primary school children. 
 
4. Write the characters&rsquo; dialogue down, everyone should keep rehearsing and 
knowing their part by heart. 
 
5. Work out the movements together while performing on stage. The words should 
match and complement the movements and vice-versa. 
 
6. Plan an effective rehearsal schedule. 
 
7. Decide on and establish the narrator. 
 
8. Perform the play a few times in your classroom in front of your colleagues and 
your teacher. 
 
9. Perform the play for one primary school. 
 
10. Take photos during the performance and if possible film it. 
 
11. After this first performance make the necessary changes to improve the play. 
 
12. Exhibit the photos with comments in your classroom for colleagues and teachers. 
 
13. The next 9 performances do not form part of this task and the points are not 
included in this task.
