The task is to learn about the basic conception of Confucius’ philosophy and understanding of humanity as “To love the people”.

Introduction:
Reading the title of this task, you got curious to know this person, <strong>Confucius</strong>. Who was<br /> Confucius and what did he do to deserve the attention of all people in the world – of all<br /> humanity?<br /> <br /> The first thing I would like to say and which will make you very proud is that<br /> Confucius was a teacher. A teacher? Yes, in his education a teacher, just as you.<br /> <br /> What kind of teacher was he?<br /> <br /> A teacher who loved the people and in his profession found a way of expressing this<br /> love by educating all those who were at his school.<br /> <br /> Do you love the pupils you are teaching? That is, how do you express your love in the<br /> way you are working with your pupils in primary school?<br /> <br /> But what in particular did he do as a teacher?<br /> <br /> He educated his pupils. He trained them to become good, competent and honest<br /> workers with a good character and with love. It is because of the success of his<br /> educating that his school became very famous. The pupils that graduated from his<br /> school had a good posture and worked very hard. That is why the work of Confucius<br /> attracted the attention of everybody. He attained such a high quality that even the kings<br /> and the noblemen sent their children and their officials to be educated at his school.<br /> <br /> He also used his profession as a teacher to inspire love in all his students. To love<br /> everybody. This was the particular contribution from Confucius.<br /> <br /> Have you already started to imagine how the world would be if everybody used their<br /> work to express love? It would be a better world to live in and very much developed for<br /> everyone. At present we have a world which is very much developed for a few while<br /> the majority live in underdevelopment, in poverty.<br /> <br /> Now, consider yourself, taking into consideration the thinking of Confucius:<br /> <div style="margin-left: 40px;">1. Do you think that there, in your own school, you can do the same? Can you<br /> work with so much love and quality that all people in the world would hear<br /> about the successes of your pupils? Do you think so?<br /> <br /> 2. What does it mean for you to live as a genuine teacher? With the load of<br /> being one that everybody expects will lead the children and the community to<br /> success?<br /> <br /> 3. Confucius took education very seriously, as the key to development of the<br /> people, everybody, poor, rich and leaders. Are you conscious of the fact that<br /> your work is the key to success for everyone in the community?<br /> <br /> 4. Is it possible to be a teacher without loving the people?<br /> </div> The profession as a teacher is a profession of love. A genuine love whose depth can be<br /> compared to the love that the parents have to their children. Only that the love of the<br /> teacher is for all people, for everybody.<br /> <br /> When doing this task, think of you yourself as a teacher, taking inspiration from<br /> Confucius. <strong>Enjoy it!</strong>

1. Read the file (F1) about the Chinese philosopher<br /> Confucius and his notion of humanity.<br /> <br /> 2. Discuss the following statement “The wise have no<br /> perplexities, the humanists have no worries, the<br /> courageous have no fears” in your micro group. Do you<br /> agree?<br /> <br /> 3. Think about how you can use Confucius’ definition of<br /> humanity in the way you as a teacher meet your pupils –<br /> can you “love all your students”?<br /> <br /> 4. Present your considerations for your micro group and your<br /> teacher.
