Introduction:
Ron Clark says,

“Accept that you will make errors. Learn from them and go on”.

Working with colleagues, you may commit errors in behaviour or attitude and, by this,
offend your pupil or colleague or some parents. Sometimes, it is not intended. In some
schools, there have been conflicts between teachers because of that. Ron Clark talks
about an experience in order to show to the teachers that this is a serious question.

The children in primary school are sufficiently sensible and capable to understand how
their teacher has to do with the other teachers at the school and how they look upon
them and whether there are conflicts between them. Often such relations and
considerations has an influence on the attitude of the pupils towards other teachers at
the school.

This task will give you the opportunity to reflect critically on how the attitude of the
teacher influences the attitude of the students.

Enjoy it!
Directive:
1. Read file (F1) pages 147-154 in Ron Clark’s book “The
Essential 55”.

2. Write down what you find are the main issues of this
story.

3. Write down the points where Mr. Clark – according to
your opinion – made errors, and describe how he should
have acted differently.

4. Does the knowledge about other people and the
understanding of the background for their actions have
any influence in how you regard and act towards that
person?

5. Decide upon some essential guidelines for how you will
work together with your colleagues in your future
Teachers Council, all to the benefit of the students.

6. Show your guidelines to your teacher and ask for
comments.
