Introduction:
Ron Clark says,

“No matter what the circumstances, always be honest. Even if you
have done something wrong, it is best to admit it to me, because I
will respect that, and oftentimes I will forget any dsiciplinary
measures because of your honesty”.

To be honest is to be sincere, to say the truth, irrespective of the possible consequences
of what was done. One person may think badly about someone else, may do something
secretly against some rule or damage somebody. When asked to reveal the truth, he has
to be honest and say the truth.

Lack of honesty obstructs the solution of conflicts and creates injustice. Many people
can suffer from lack of honesty from someone. Through lack of honesty, the
atmosphere in the relations between people becomes clouded. Lack of honesty creates
an environment of constant conflicts.

Often, it is not that easy to be honest. Our honesty is needed by other people when we
are in a situation in which we have to reveal something that affected us or which we
did. The problem of being honest lies in the fact that we fear to reveal something
because we are afraid of the possible reprisals or our being discredited. Therefore we
are afraid or shameful.

To grow an atmosphere of honesty between the pupils is very important in order to
influence them to be always sincere in the future. The teacher must insist upon the
honesty of the pupils and value this honesty. This is what Ron Clark explains to the
teachers through a personal experience.

This task is a good opportunity for you to reflect on how far you will fight for the
education of your pupils becoming honest people and present your arguments for this.

Enjoy it!.
Directive:
1. Read (F1) page 154-158 in Ron Clark’s book “The
Essential 55”.

2. Write in your own words what you have learned from
reading this short story.

3. Put up two columns: The one containing words describing
an “honest” environment and the other containing words
describing an environment “not honest”.

4. What is in your opinion, the obstacles against an honest
environment? What makes people into “not being honest”?

5. Prepare for a discussion with a group of fellow students by
writing main points to be discussed and get the plan
approved by your teacher; discuss with your fellow
students, enjoy and get wiser.
