Introduction:
In The Doctrine of the Modern Method of Teaching and Learning, the Experiences<br /> have got their own all-important space, in principle taking up 25% of the time of a<br /> program using DMM.<br /> <br /> This is an expression of schools and teachers using DMM ''acting according to who<br /> they are''.<br /> DMM is maintaining that learning is based in the student's activities, and that these<br /> activities must evoke the emotions, use them to take a stand to important issues,<br /> confront knowledge with reality to obtain real understanding of various phenomena.<br /> <br /> DMM is also maintaining that learning takes place in dialectic processes, among<br /> them the dialectic between the individual student and the group comprising students<br /> as well as teacher – which you find represented in DMM in Studies and Courses as<br /> well as in the planning and evaluation processes laid into the method. Among them<br /> the dialectic between seeking out and exploring Experiences and letting them enrich<br /> Studies and Courses and vice-versa.<br /> <br /> DMM is maintaining that learning takes place in the context of a program, with a<br /> clearly defined and expressed idea and structured in a sequence of periods that leads<br /> the students through the totality of the program in an un-fragmented and continuous<br /> learning process. It is here the Experiences have their place.<br /> <br /> Thus placed in context of the program, the Experiences can make their influence on<br /> the students (and teachers): Open their hearts and minds to life itself, the world, its<br /> phenomena and its people, evoke emotions and provoke considerations, inspire to<br /> action and more learning.<br /> <br /> The Experiences in DMM can be traced back to the pedagogical principles of One<br /> World University. You can go through them one by one and identify where the<br /> Experiences have their place, or their say. The pedagogical principles form part of<br /> the theoretical foundation for this concept in DMM.<br /> <br /> In DMM, the Experience does not end at the end of the visit to the family in a<br /> foreign country or the end of a fantastic sports day full of victories and defeats. The<br /> Experience must go through a process of thought, reflection and analysis, often with<br /> a session of writing as the method. In this way, the Experience becomes a part of a<br /> conscious learning, and it becomes part of constructing the arsenal of knowledge<br /> and understanding that constantly develops in the student.<br /> <br /> In this task you will elaborate on your understanding of the DMM concept of<br /> Experience, in a combination of theoretical studies and own experimentation with<br /> the use of Experiences in DMM.
Directive:
1. Read the Introduction and take note of issues you need to clarify, read more<br /> about or revisit, and of issues you are well familiar with.<br /> <br /> 2. Reflect on Experiences you have had in relation to learning in general and in<br /> relation to DMM in particular. Take notes.<br /> <br /> 3. Consult the suggested files F1, F2.<br /> <br /> 4. Go through the pedagogical principles in F3 and point out where the<br /> Experiences are pertinent to the principles. Take notes.<br /> <br /> 5. Formulate your understanding of the Experiences as a concept in DMM, its<br /> significance and its part in the learning process in DMM. Write 1 A4 page<br /> about it.<br /> <br /> 6. Ask your tutor for comments to your writings.
