The task is to consider the issue of the teacher as a leader and of leadership being in great demand and shortage and of yourself as a teacher leader or one who trains such teachers.

Introduction:
Leadership is in great demand and shortage in the world. Good leadership that is.<br /> <br /> Leadership appears – in some segments of society, of production and national<br /> economy more than in others – to be generally corrupted by money, power to move<br /> and decide over others entirely without their approval, by prestige, by a host of<br /> ethically inferior motives.<br /> <br /> The true leader is a servant. Is led by the unselfish motive of serving as best he can<br /> those in need of leadership. That leader employs all his abilities and capacities to<br /> serve well. That teacher is satisfied when all willing students pass their exam. That<br /> leader cannot tolerate that some in the class sit on chairs while others not. That<br /> teacher will find ways to circumvent the great language obstacle that might be there<br /> in the class by clever organization of the pupils and by pursuing with love, care and<br /> diligency that every pupil leaves the classroom wiser and more skilled than she<br /> entered. That teacher will confront the fact of empty stomachs and poor<br /> concentration among the students by including school and parents into a scheme of<br /> providing the needed food. That teacher cannot achieve any of this or the myriad of<br /> other things and actions crying to be done if not by leadership.<br /> <br /> She will need leadership skills in the classroom and outside the classroom in order<br /> to get things to happen and move forward, always forward, better, more interesting,<br /> more delightful, more cultural, more sporty, more of everything of which the school<br /> is short.<br /> <br /> But a leader must know this about herself. Must be conscious. Must embrace his<br /> being different. Must endure the rejections and struggles coming up by every turn<br /> and twist on the way forward. That leader needs humour! That leader needs a host<br /> of highly useful human qualities. That leader needs to become extraordinary. And<br /> who is going to train her for that and to these qualities? First of all herself, being a<br /> deeply political person, grasping everything on her way which can be used as tools<br /> for paving the way to become what she was not before. The leader simply takes on<br /> the challenge of becoming one because it is so clearly needed. The comfort zone of<br /> family, of the homely village, of the circumstances of up-bringing and might be<br /> even of tradition-heavyweights like marriage and religion have been left behind<br /> quite some time ago.<br /> <br /> This task is meant for you to consider the issue of <em>1) the teacher as a leader and 2)<br /> of good leadership being generally in great shortage and 3) of yourself as a teacher<br /> leader or one who trains such teachers.</em>

1. First of all think it over. Study the file. Allow yourself to be challenged by it.<br /> Consider your personal stand and preference. If you actually disagree with this<br /> or that part or the whole of it, deep down, embrace discussion and organize that<br /> discussion yourself. Be wise to choose discussion partners who are able to<br /> challenge you.<br /> <br /> 2. Then write your replies and considerations to the questions in the file one by<br /> one.<br /> <div style="margin-left: 40px;">A) Is the teacher to be considered a leader and why?<br /> <br /> B) Is it true that there is a great shortage of good leadership, if yes, give<br /> 5 examples from own observations.<br /> <br /> C) Describe with 5 characteristics of yourself as a teacher-leader<br /> how you will lead.</div> <br /> 3. Show your replies to a discussion partner so you secure a high level of<br /> intellectual sharpness.<br /> <br /> 4. Send it to your tutor for approval.
