Wording:
The task is to learn about DNS as a school “based on the idea that it should present to the students and to the world at large a clear, perspective-full and concretely directed idea of what it wants to achieve in respect to equipping the students with relevant practical and theoretical knowledge, skill and practices, so that each student […] becomes able to act with others […].”

Introduction:
All schools have an idea which can be grasped by seeing what is actually happening in
the school. Some schools have additionally written material about themselves. DNS-
Tvind has a whole book of 484 pages divided into nine chapters. When you have
finished reading the whole book, you get a pretty good understanding of the school.

Some parts of it, you will probably read in the preparatory meeting, before joining the
college. And the other, you will read as part of the programme. Sometimes, you will
need to read a certain chapter again in order to get to the bottom of its idea.

The programme book makes it clear for the participating students and teachers what
the actual idea of the training is, and it gives instructions in what to do and how to do it.

When you read this book, please remember to also ‘read’ the photos – they express
very well the effect which the programme has on its participants.

The first chapter wants you to grasp the idea of the school.

Enjoy!
Directive:
1. Read the pages 22 to 29 from DNS-Tvind pedagogy book (F1). Concentrate on the last
part of the page 26 starting with “Our school has the “CONCRETELY DIRECTED IDEA” of
what you should achieve” and the final eight lines on the page 29, starting with “There
you have it”. [15 minutes]

2. Answer the following questions:

(a) What are your expected achievements? [10 minutes]

(b) What do you think is meant by the expression ‘relevant practical and theoretical
knowledge’? [10 minutes]

(c) ‘Relevant’ seen in relation to what? [5 minutes]

(d) Give examples of practical knowledge and of theoretical knowledge – for each
example say why it is important for a teacher to have that knowledge. [10
minutes]

(e) If you should say the last eight lines at the page 29 using your own words, what
would you say? [10 minutes]

3. Send your answers from the point 2 to your tutor for evaluation.
