The task is to get to know what to do to get well again when there are no medicines available.
Time:
hours
Introduction:
Even in a case of more serious illness, when a medicine may be needed, it is the
body that must overcome the disease; the medicine only helps. Cleanliness, rest,
nutritious food, and lots of water are still very important.

Clean water might not always be available in the places where we are traveling to.
Some people have to walk and wait for hours to get to a water point. If there is water
it may not be clean either. It can take a lot of effort to get water in the first place, and
then the water needs to be purified.

The easiest way is to boil water. After the water is clear from filtration, boil it for 20
minutes to kill whatever bacteria left. Another method is to put clear water in a clear
plastic bottle and put it in the sun for at least 6 hours, preferably on a dark surface.
Either way killing the bacteria makes it safe to drink. Another way is to use chlorine
that you add to the water to purify it.

It is very important that the water is clean otherwise the water you consume can
make healing more difficult.
Directive:
1. Read the file: “Healing without medicine” from “Where there is no Doctor”
by David Werner.

2. Read the file: “40 Green world actions” chapter 2 and 4 about safe water and
sufficient and nutritious food.

3. Make a poster you can take with you to your project that illustrates the
difference between clean and contaminated water.

4. Make a poster you can take with you to your project that illustrates simple
solutions to heal/prevent common sicknesses.

5. Think of ideas how you can implement solar disinfection in the community
where you will work.

6. Think about ideas and practical solutions that you can do to maintain a local
water post. Talk to people who have been at HPP’s projects and base your
ideas on the conversations you have.

7. Present the posters to at least 3 of your team and teacher and send point 5 and
6 to your teacher.
