The task is to understand what serious complications can occur by using modern medicine in the wrong way.

Introduction:
Some medicines sold in pharmacies or village stores can be very useful, but many<br /> are of no value. Of the 60,000 medicines sold in most countries, the World<br /> Health Organization says that only about 200 are necessary.<br /> <br /> Also, people sometimes use the best medicines in the wrong way, so that they do<br /> more harm than good. To be helpful, medicine must be used correctly.<br /> <br /> Many people, including most doctors and health workers, prescribe far more<br /> medicines than are needed—and by so doing cause much needless sickness and<br /> death.<br /> <br /> In this task you will learn more about the use and misuse of modern medicine.

1. Read the file: “Right and wrong use of modern medicine” from “Where there<br /> is no Doctor” by David Werner.<br /> <br /> 2. Read the file: “Green Pages” from “Where there is no Doctor” by David<br /> Werner.<br /> <br /> 3. Write a one page essay on what you learned from the article “Right and wrong<br /> use of modern medicine”.<br /> <br /> 4. Explain in a 2 page essay:<br /> <div style="margin-left: 40px;">a. The differences between the most common antibiotics and give general<br /> warnings.<br /> <br /> b. What to take and what not to do with mild and severe diarrhea.<br /> <br /> c. What to do and what not to do with Malnutrition and Anemia.<br /> <br /> d. What is Vitamin A good for? And, what is the best way to take it?<br /> <br /> e. What is the most important advice regarding taking medicine?<br /> </div> 5. Send point 3 and 4 to your teacher.
