The task is to understand that fat is essential for life. Fat is not just fat, but there is different kinds of fat, some are good for us and some are not.

Introduction:
Fats are chemical compounds that cannot be dissolved in water. When they are<br /> liquid at normal temperatures, they are called oils. A number of fats are essential for<br /> all living organisms, since they form a large part of the cell membranes that keep all<br /> cells together and control what goes in and out of the cells. Without fats the nerve<br /> cells would not function, since they form the layer of insulation that prevents the<br /> nerve signals from fading away. Warm-blooded animals, such as humans, would<br /> find it difficult to survive in cold climates without an insulating layer of cells filled<br /> with fat.<br /> <br /> So fats are essential for our health, but we need to get the right kinds of fat. In the<br /> average diet of Western countries, many people get too much of the bad fats that are<br /> harmful to health and too little of the good fats that are needed for healthy growth<br /> and to improve health.<br /> <br /> What good fats, the unsaturated fats, do to your body:<br /> <div style="margin-left: 40px;">1. Good fats make you brain work better;<br /> <br /> 2. Good fats is grease for your joints;<br /> <br /> 3. Good fats make blood run in elastic and strong arteries and veins;<br /> <br /> 4. Good fats improve your nervous system;<br /> <br /> 5. Good fats make your skin more elastic;<br /> <br /> 6. Good fats are good for your hair;<br /> <br /> 7. Good fats assist your organs, such as your heart;<br /> <br /> 8. Good fats make your body absorb vitamin A, D, K, and E;<br /> <br /> 9. Good fats improve your immune system and help to prevent diseases such as<br /> cancer.<br /> </div> These products contain good fats: Fish and seafood, all types of nuts, avocados,<br /> olives, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, sesame, beans, oil from olive, canola, peanut,<br /> maize, cottonseeds and soybean.<br /> <br /> Bad fats (they are called trans-fats, or hydrogenated oils). The bad fats can harm<br /> your health:<br /> <div style="margin-left: 40px;">1. Bad fats clog up veins and arteries;<br /> <br /> 2. Bad fats make you fat;<br /> <br /> 3. Bad fats make you feel tired after eating;<br /> <br /> 4. Bad fats make your brain less functional;<br /> <br /> 5. Bad fats make your skin dry;<br /> <br /> 6. Bad fats are hard for the digestive system;<br /> <br /> 7. Bad fats make your hair dry;<br /> <br /> 8. Bad fats do not assist your organs, instead you can get diseases such as heart<br /> disease or high cholesterol;<br /> <br /> 9. Harmful fats increase cholesterol levels, and they directly destroy good<br /> cholesterol in the body;<br /> <br /> 10. Harmful fats make children get diseases they did not get before at an early<br /> age. They can get high cholesterol and heart problems already at an age of 8-<br /> 10 year if they eat a lot of trans-fats, for example from processed food.<br /> </div> Trans-fats are found in margarine and special oils for deep-frying. Most of the<br /> cookies and pastries that are nicely packed contain trans-fat. Fast food also contains<br /> large amounts of trans-fat.<br /> <br /> Besides the unsaturated (good fats) and trans fats (bad fats) there are the saturated<br /> fats found for example in animal fat, milk products, eggs, cashew, coconut and palm<br /> oil. For many years they were considered “bad”, but more and more research shows<br /> that this is probably not the case, as long as you ensure sufficient amounts of<br /> unsaturated fats to accompany the saturated ones.<br /> <br /> If you are in an area where people regularly buy processed food, then you should use<br /> your knowledge to get people to take a stand to what kinds of fats they feed their<br /> bodies.
