Time:

Introduction:
Today everyone talks about the need for sustainability, sustainable development,
environmental sustainability etc. It has become a global buzz-word. Developing
countries are met with prof of sustainability when asking for loans. Projects will not
get funding unless they have a clear sustainability policy included. Businesses need to
advertise their sustainability goals and results in order to promote their business. And
so on.

As it often is, we adopt these words in our language and vocabulary without having a
clear understanding of what they mean, let alone what consequences they have for
our lives and actions. But we have a gut feeling that sustainability is something good,
something positive, something we should strive for.

As Development Instructors you take part in Humana People to People’s
development projects, where the question of creating sustainable development is a
key issue and therefore something you must consider the meaning of and what
consequences this has for your actions.

In this course we will take a closer look at sustainability and what it means to have a
sustainable lifestyle and how we adopt to that.
Welcome!
Directive:
1. The teacher introduces the course using the introduction in the “Teacher’s
Notes”.

2. Sustainable Lifestyle - discussions and team work:

Discussions about:

-Can you as an individual decide to live a sustainable lifestyle? Does it make
sense?

-How do we build sustainable lifestyle in smaller communities?

-How to think globally and act locally?

-Team work where we dare to dream about Open Future – how could all
elements in our lives look like and be organized in a sustainable community
where fighting global warming and climate change together with The Poor is
still a major common challenge?

3. Conclusion – where do we stand now? What steps have we already taken?
What are some new steps we can take here and now? What are the new steps
for next year? Two years? Five years? How do we follow up on this?
